Welcome to Grade 5
 Procedures for Mrs. Walby’s Class

  1.  Agendas:
Your agenda is a very important tool for you to keep yourself organized this year.  Try to get a parent/guardian to sign your agenda every night.  When you arrive back at school in the morning your agenda is placed in the agenda basket at the front of the room.  Please place all notes from parents, class trip notes etc., or things that need to be returned to me in your agenda in the plastic pouch at the front. At the front of your agenda you will find lots of information about our school and school year.

Agendas WILL NOT be replaced if lost or damaged.

  2.  Beginning of Day Procedures:

  1. Come into the classroom quietly and place your belongings in their appropriate spots.
  2. Place your agenda with notes inside in the agenda basket.
  3. We will be working right away so check the schedule and get your materials out and be ready to go.
  4. Please take out you AR book and read while you are waiting.

  1. End of Day Procedures:

  1. Write the daily agenda message and homework assignments into your agenda.  The agenda message must be written completely.  When you are done writing down the message come to me and I will place a stamp, sticker, or initial in your agenda.
  2. Once you have your agenda checked please clean up the space around, on and underneath your table.
  3. Pack up your belongings, put your outdoor clothing on and put your indoor shoes in your cubbie.
  4. Sit quietly at your table.
  5. Once everyone is quietly seated, we will do our end of day prayer and I will dismiss you.  The bell is only a guideline; Mrs. Walby will dismiss you.

  1.  Daily Schedule:

  1.  Duo-tangs:
All subject duo-tangs will be kept in your personal slot in the classroom.  It is important that they be kept here so that we do not lose them and so that they can be checked when needed. DO NOT be rough with your duo tangs!

  2. Supplies:
Each student will have a plastic box to store his or her personal supplies.  It is up to you to keep your box neat and keep your supplies in order.  You may keep a pencil case at your table.

  3. Raising your hand:
Please raise your hand before asking or answering a question or contributing to a discussion when we are working as a large group.  When we are working in small groups remember not to interrupt someone who is already talking.

If you need my help during a class, please raise your hand and I will respond as quickly as I can.

  4. Missing materials:
It is up to you to keep track of all your materials.  I WILL NOT make extra copies of handouts.  If you lose something it will be your responsibility to copy it from a classmate.

  5. Share Buckets:
There are share buckets at every table.  These supplies belong to me.  You may use them if you do not have what you need but they must be returned and respected. These share boxes are ONLY TO BE USED if you have forgotten or do not have the materials you require.

  6. Pencil:
Please do all school work in pencil unless I tell you otherwise.

  7.  Absences:
When you are away, the handouts and assignments from the day you missed will be in your duo tangs.  It is YOUR JOB to get your work done. I will be more than happy to help you understand what is expected.  If you were to write a test on the day you were absent you will be expected to write it on the day you get back. Please be prepared.

  8. Incomplete Assignments:
It is your responsibility to get your assignments handed in on the dates they are due.  I will not chase you to get these assignments in.  You will be reminded only once.

    13. Tablets/Devices:
Tablets/Devices are only to be used with teacher permission.  Tablets are to be used for school related activities.  If you have free time and are on the tablet you must be on a site approved by Mrs. Walby.

    14.  Drinks and Bathroom:
Please try to use the bathroom and get a drink at break times because if you are gone during teaching times you may miss something important. You will be required to sign bathroom book when you leave and return from class.
You may keep a water bottle at your table.  Please fill up before class starts or on your break.

15.  Leaving the class:
Please ask permission to leave the class.

  1. Weekly Incentive:
We will do a daily check at the end of each day.  If, as a class, we find that we have had a good day we will get a check mark on the calendar.  At the end of the week if we have earned a check for each day of the week then Ms. Walby brings the “incentive!”

    IT’S AWESOME!!!

  2. Respect:
Please show respect for classroom materials, books, and all other items in our school and classroom.

Please show respect to Ms. Walby and your fellow classmates.

  3. Shoes
As weather dictates the students will remove shoes when asked to.  Please place shoes neatly outside our door.  Everyone must wear footwear when in the school.

  4. Student Supervision
Doors will be locked at all times and there are to be no students in the classroom working without direct teacher supervision.  This includes before and after school and during the brain breaks.

  5. Hallway Movement
Keep to the right when walking down the hallway.

  6. Library
    We will discuss this later.

  1. Lunch
Students will eat lunch in our classroom.  There will be no tolerance for unnecessary mess.  Students are expected to eat their lunch in their seats and CLEAN UP after themselves.

  2. Seating
We use flexible seating in our class.  You will be expected to find your “BEST” learning spot.  If I feel this space is not working for you I will move you to a different location.  I will explain flexible seating in more detail.

FINALLY!!!!
BLOG
My classroom blog is a way to keep families in the loop about what is going on in the classroom.  I update the blog everyday with what we did that day, assignments, school events, upcoming dates and any other information I feel is important for families to be aware of.  I feel that the blog combined with the agenda should give both students and their families ample awareness of what is happening in our room.
