Is this really January?

What an incredible sunny day and an amazing way to start our week!

We are having a chip/dip/pop and movie reward tomorrow for all of those students who have met expectations this month! I am so proud of you; you deserve it!

We had our Math test today on geometry for the Grade 5's and Angles for the Grade 6's; hopefully the marks will reflect how smart all of you are!

We did a little "flying" today in Science; please ask your child!

I want to start this post out by saying thank you so very much to the many parents who have been so supportive of my efforts to motivate their children to try to do their best each and everyday in school. 

January has been a tough month in grade 5/6; students seem to be sliding a bit and really not working to their potential.  I will continue to encourage your child and instill in them the privilege and value of education and I am so blessed to have such supportive families behind me!

It's almost the weekend! I apologize for not updating the blog yesterday but I ended up with some technological issues.

For Friday we need to be ready for the following:

Tuesday Times!

We are moving right along this week. 

Students began the pre-writing process for their Narrative Letter.  Ask you child what they are suppose to do on this writing assignment.  It ties directly into their literature circle novel and is quite cool! We are working very hard at improving our writing.  Students need to work very hard at paying attention to details, adding important and interesting details, and improving their writing endurance.

We are finishing up a geometry unit in grade 5 and a unit on angles in grade 6; a test will soon be scheduled.

• Please bring back overdue books
• Please submit book orders

We Had A Great Monday!

We worked so hard today in grade 5/6! I was so very proud of each and every one of you for staying on task and focused!

Families please ask your child about the 4 Forces that affect all things that fly.  Ask your child about our science experiment today and the principle of "drag" on things that fly!

Thursday Items!

I'm so sorry families for not updating the blog yesterday but I was away ill and simply did not get around to it.

We had our amazing AR party today complete with licorice, popsicles, and popcorn! We met our AR goals and Mrs. Patterson rewarded us abundantly! We completed Yurtle's Turtles and Hop on Pop!

It's Beautiful Outside!

It is finally time for outdoor fun now that the frigid temperatures have broken! I am grateful as I think the children have cabin fever!

We are really struggling with directions and listening skills.  I am hoping some fresh air and time outside will freshen up out minds and bodies!

Busy Monday!

We have a very productive and busy start to our week in grade 5/6. 

We wrote our Unit 7 Math test, started a cool folktale drama assignment, read some more in our literature circle books, started more of our Science Unit on Flight and began our 8's!!!

WOW!!!

Tonight please begin working on your 8's and read your AR book!

Also, take a look at your "role" for this week for your literature circle and know what is expected of you.

Today was a trying day in Grade 5/6.....lost notes, major assignments incomplete, and homework done halfway! Students accepted that they had to pull up their socks and are committed to a better start to the new year!

Tales, Heroes, Deeds and Wonders!

We have started an amazing new unit; Tales, Heroes, Deeds and Wonders!

Students have chosen their book, created a literature circle with other interested peers and have set up their "roles." Each week your child will have a "role" to complete to assist their literature circle.  They will complete 8 roles in this unit.  Ask your child which book they are exploring to learn about heroism, qualities of a good story, and leadership!
