Friday!!

We had a wonderful start to our Friday; we enjoyed a beautiful Lenten mass at St. Cecilia Parish.  the message was to try to "see God in everyone!"

We are still having a bit of a tough time following procedures in class and getting homework done on time.  I have, in anticipation, bought Friday treat several times this month but we are still working on earning it.  I am hoping we get there by the end of the day today!

Homework:
  • Both grades please review your math concepts on fractions.  We need a really solid foundation in this area.
  • Please read your AR book.  I STAR tested students again and I see growth in many of their reading ranges.
  • Gr.6 please finish career guidance quiz.
  • Finish Health Bookmarks
Have a great weekend!

Brrrrrrr....Thursday!

Thursday has started out with a chilly bang but we have been warm, toasty and busy in class today!

We have a lot going on Friday at school.  Here is what is happening:

We have Mass at St. Cecilia at 10:15.  If the weather holds out we will be walking so ALL students need appropriate clothing; coat, ski pants, mitts, hat and boots are a MUST!

Homework:
  • Gr. 5 Math-Comparing and Ordering Fractions Pg.172 1,2,3,5,6,7
  • Gr.6 Math- Converting Mixed Numbers into Improper Fractions Pg.168 1to6 and 8,9,10
  • Persuasive short paragraph...."Back Seat Space."
  • Folktale Play Presentation Friday
  • Literature Circle Roles due Friday
Students had lots of time in class to work on these items so there should not be that much to complete at home.

Welcome Back!

It was lovely to see everyone back this morning!  I trust that you all had a restful winter break!

We started Monday this week with a new math unit on fractions and decimals.  This is a difficult concept for some students so I encourage all families to incorporate fractions into as many daily activities as you can.  One of the best ways to work fractions into "home" activities is cooking; think measuring cups!  How many 1/2 cups make a whole cup, how many 1/4 cups make a whole etc.  Thanks! We are currently working with "equivalent fractions" and "mixed numbers."

Homework:
  • Gr. 5 Pg. 168 1,2,4
  • Gr. 6 Math Pg. 164 1,2,3
  • Science: Please complete your Canadians in Flight Sheet
  • Folk Tale Plays Due Friday
  • Scholastic Book Orders Due March 5th
  • Grade 6's have your Career Guidance "Smarts" done by Monday March 2
  • Sub Lunch due tomorrow.

Have a Great Weekend!

We had a great end to our week!  The students were really engaged and everyone seemed to be prepared for class! They said that it was a good feeling to know that what was expected of them was completed! They are so perceptive and bright!

We are continuing to read "The Prophecy of the Stones" as our class read aloud for our unit on Tales, Heroes, Deeds and Wonders.  As we work through this novel we are working on our reading strategies.  Ask your child to "re-tell" this story to you.  You will be amazed at how amazing they are at recalling details and putting them into their own words!
